In my episode with Jenn Shultz, I learned SO much about what can be stolen from us when we compare ourselves to other women (Episode #5). The enemy wants to cause discord, conflict, and insecurity in our lives. It’s SO imperative that we do NOT let that happen. Here are three takeaways I gleaned from my conversation with Jenn.
This blog post is going live shortly after my last post on The Psalms. I want us to remember that God created us to be together, to help one another, and to ultimately champion one another through acts of service and lots of prayer (Acts 4:32-Acts 4:37). God doesn’t want us to just love Him but to also love our neighbors, and in other words, our sisters in Christ (Matthew 22:36-40). We lose out on the sisterhood that God has placed in front of us when we spend all of our energy comparing ourselves to one another. He has made each of us in a way that perfectly reflects a part of who God is. We are imago dei, also known as, God Imaged. Everyday we have the opportunity to reflect God to the people around us! Let’s not squander that opportunity by getting stuck in the rut that is comparison.
When I find myself comparing, which is a part of being human I might add, I try to remind myself to focus my energy somewhere else. Usually that means changing my perspective and shifting my mindset. I start the process by asking the following questions:
Questions like these help me recognize that I have all that I need, that whatever insecurity I might be feeling in the moment is temporary, and that God is the source I need to run to in order to right my heart.
When we are not championing other women and instead focusing on what we aren’t getting to do, or focusing on what our lives were supposed to look like, or focusing on what we don’t have, we are the ones who should have FOMO. We miss out on truly celebrating those around us that we love, we miss out on what God IS calling us to do, and we don’t enjoy the blessings we currently have. I heard this quote recently and it’s really shifted the way I see my life:
You are currently living out an answer to prayer
With that concept in mind, we can truly learn to appreciate the blessing and provision we do have. God gives us everything we could ever need – sometimes that can get lost in the things we don’t have or the situation we want to be in, but aren’t in just yet. Do not lose hope but instead, bring these insecurities, these comparisons to God, and watch what he can do with our lack (lack or belief, lack of trust, lack of hope). He can make beautiful things out of dust, so continue to seek God first and train your heart in the ways of God’s word (Psalm 103:13-14)!
I hope this post encouraged you today. In the meantime, stay savvy and we’ll talk soon!
